Open House Tips for Homebuyers

Woodstock real estate- open housesAttending open houses can be a great way to ease into the local real estate market and meet agents. Whether you’re a first time home buyer or a seasoned pro, check out these tips for making the most of your next open house.

  • Open houses are a great way to get a feel for what you are looking for in a home and how much you can get for your money. Online listings are helpful too, but there’s nothing like seeing a place in person.
  • Even if you don’t sign in, be sure to say hello to the agent who is running the open house. If you are working with a real estate agent, let them know who your agent is. If you’re just dipping a toe in the real estate waters, open houses are great places to meet agents and strike up a quick conversation. When you are ready to get serious about your home search, you’ll have a better idea of who you would like to work with.
  • Ask the agent questions about the house and sellers. You may be able to glean useful information from their responses which could come in handy later in negotiations.
  • Watch and learn. Sometimes it’s easy to get excited about certain features of a home and completely miss the potential negative issues. By paying attention to what other visitors are saying, you may be alerted to an issue you hadn’t noticed on your own.
