Painting Guide: Sell Your Home Faster With These Tips

When it comes to selling residential real estate, most people have two main objectives: Sell quickly, and fetch a good price. There is a lot of competition in the real estate market these days in Woodstock and the rest of north metro Atlanta, so in order to achieve both of those objectives, your home needs to look its best. Otherwise, you are more likely to find yourself sacrificing price to sell quickly, or vice versa.

With over 50 years of combined experience, our team of Keller Williams real estate agents knows what works and what doesn’t when it comes to staging your home to sell, and one of the most effective things you can do is so simple- just paint! Read on for interior painting tips for sellers.

Choose paint colors conservatively. While dark shades and bold hues can make for dramatic interior design, they are not the right choice when your home is on the market. Light, neutral colors are the way to go. Why? Well, pale colors visually expand the area, making your home look more spacious. Pale colors also reflect more light, which will make your home look bright and airy.

Neutrals are a smart choice because they allow prospective buyers to really look at the space instead of focusing on your decorating choices. You want your home to appeal to the widest pool of buyers possible.

Maintain the flow. It’s fine to paint the entire interior of your home the same color, but to create a more welcoming environment it’s best to choose colors for each room that are different, but still relate and feel connected. Think about how the color you choose for the living room will look when viewed from the foyer, or the master bath from the bedroom, etc.

Use color psychology to make your home comfortable. Generally, warmer colors are best for living and dining areas, providing a sense of welcome and promoting conversation and appetite, while cooler colors lend an air of calm relaxation to bedrooms and baths.

Keep it simple. Colorful accent walls, faux finishes, textures, and murals can all add personality to your home, but personality is, well, personal. Again, you want to appeal to the largest number of potential buyers possible; you do not want visitors to be thinking about how much they hate that custom finish you chose for the dining room or how much it will cost to remove it, when they could be imagining their happy family dinners there.
